The lines between design and development get more blurred every day

At points I have made decisions that directly affect the design of a project. Take the spacing between elements for instance: when developing in a responsive context this becomes a programming problem as well as a design one. It is therefore increasingly likely that it is important to not only understand design but also have the creative capacity to design as a developer.

Words of wisdom from Paul Rand.
You can read a huge range of his quotes in this pdf book here, which is from the site of Steven Heller. Whether you like his work or not, Paul Rand was undoubtedly intelligent and wise. This quote pretty much sums up graphic design, and why it is so difficult.

Optimism

Gavin Rothery:

The 60s and 70s were an amazing period for science fiction illustration. You can feel the optimism of the space-race and the excitement and predictability of man in space that sadly hasn’t arrived yet.

These illustrations are by Klaus Bürgle.
